Blake Mycoskie

Blake Mycoskie

We should ALL know about TOMS shoes. "When you purchase a pair of shoes, another pair is donated to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchase power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we're all about". I love the motivation behind Blake and his company. Like me, Blake wants to use the power of consumerism to motivate and fund change. There is nothing wrong with spending money and buying what you want. But, when you purchase a product that helps others around the world, the ripple effect exponentially multiplies the power behind your intentions. This is why I do what I do. I think that is why Blake does what he does with his company. He must like what I am doing, because TOMS Shoes is one of my followers on TWITTER.

TOMS Shoes collaborates with Ralph Lauren on their Polo Rugby TOMS. TOMS also collaborates with Element Skateboards on shoes and One for One Skateboards. The TOMS/Element products are donated to support Indigo Skate Camp in Durban, South Africa. "TOMS is on track to give the One Millionth Pair of new shoes to a child in need this September 2010".

I love this company and what it stands for. One day I hope to collaborate with them as well! Learn more about Blake and his company at www.toms.com/blake-bio .

Model Behavior

Gisele

Gisele Bundchen

While reading the April 2010 issue of Vogue, I came across the most interesting of statements, “I’m really a Bostonian now”. Truthfully, that statement is not all together that strange. As a person that grew up taking the “T” to Downtown Crossing on the Red line and hung out in front of Contempo Casuals without a cent to spend, (I know there are ladies reading this right now that did the same or were even with me), I truly understand what that statement means. The Red Socks and the Patriots have won you over. When arriving in Boston, the accent has a familiar cadence that let’s you know that you are home! You have been baptized into the fold, you are one of us!

Well the question still remains, Who said this profound statement? Gisele Bundchen (Brady), that’s who! Yup! Not only does she consider herself a Bostonian, she has been an activist for years. And she is just not an “Activist”, she is an “Environmental Activist”. She spent time in 2003 with Amazonian Indians made ill by run-off waters poisoned due to deforestation[i] . She also “arranged with the Brazilian firm Grendene to produce a collection of flip-flops under her name…with profits going toward replanting the Amazonian Forest”[ii]. As a result, 25,000 trees have been replanted[iii].  Gisele, along with her family, also have the Agua Limpa (Clean Water) Project that “aims at implementing sustainable environmental management and promoting the recovery of riparian vegetation and the micro basins of Horizontina and Tucunduva (State of Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil), the region where the top model was born.”[iv] An eco-comic is now in the making called “Gisele and the Green Team”[v]. She was even recently named the U. N. Goodwill ambassador for environmental issues[vi]. Her foundation, Luz, takes bold strides such as sponsoring both yoga in schools and reforestation. I visited her website, www.giselebundchen.com . It has her blog and recent news on her eco missions around the world. Well People -who knew? I definitely didn’t! But I am glad I know now! Gisele, model, mogul, wife, new mother and environmental activist! You go girl!!!
